French police detain veil ban protesters

Paris police have detained two women wearing Islamic veils at a protest on the first day of France’s ban on the burqa and niqab

I don’t see the problem of wearing a burqa in public as long as she can identify herself if needed. Her being detained is bureaucratic stupidity. She clearly isn’t hurting anyone or anything. They just have to detain her because its against the law. The real people to blame are the lawmakers of France.

On the other hand, discouraging the use of burqas as it related to woman’s suffrage is a completely different situation. I think that everyone should be able to wear whatever they want as long as it is appropriate. If woman are being forced to wear a burqa as they are in some parts of the world, this is also morally and ethically wrong.
